Queen Anne Chest of Drawers
Ca. 1700, Connecticut
Stunning survivor from the 1700s! This pine chest sports two half-drawers on top of four full-size drawers. Poplar secondary wood, as well. This chest has a second paint history of black over red, but is very early. The chest has developed an exceptionally pretty patina over the years, and because it is so rich and dark, it's difficult to capture the color. The first photo was taken in daylight and best shows its warmth. The brasses are original. The legs are high bootjack, cutout ends. Dovetailed drawers, square nails and rose head nails. The top is dovetailed, as well. It has some very old repairs, such as the back right foot, and a piece on a middle drawer, none of which take away from the beauty of this chest. This chest is a perfect collector's piece that deserves to spend many more years in someone's home for keeps.
